whoa ... my 8th grade social studies class split up into groups and did this very thing. before 'teh internets,' it was a little bit harder to find the references!

Um, no, REM's song came first. REM - 1988, Joel - 1989. Check the Wikipedia entries and please apologize, dumbass.

This song is a kind of pathetic baby-boom whine. Joel should have stayed at the piano where he was much better. Except Italian Restaurant, wich is horrible.

I just remembered that a kid in camp tried to convince me it was "trouble in the sewers," and that that was a reference to a secret C.H.U.D. epidemic.
